There was also a raffle with a variety of prizes including Chris Bannister CDs. A total of £831.50 was raised, of which £280 was donated to the village institute and the remainder to the Prostate Cancer Research Centre.

Fun quiz: Langcliffe Singers will host a fun quiz on Saturday at the village institute. Teams should consist of four people. The cost is £2 per head. There will be a Jacob’s Join supper. Please bring your own drinks.

Village show: Langcliffe Village Show will hold its first meeting of the year in the institute committee room on Sunday at 3pm. Stewards are reminded to bring the list of categories for their class.

Defibrillator: The village now has its own defibrillator and 17 villagers have received training from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service. Their names and phone numbers are on the institute and Ellwood notice boards.

War exhibition: Can you help with the England on the Cusp of War exhibition planned for May 3 and 4? What was happening in Langcliffe and Settle between 1900 and 1914? The organisers hope to find out who was living in the village, how many shops there were, what was happening at the school and the institute etc. Do you have any photos or books from that time? Please get in touch with Kate Croll if you can help.

St John’s: There is a list in St John the Evangelist’s Church of items which can be donated to the Skipton Food Bank. Items are being collected at the Quaker Meeting House and there is a box at the back of the church. Please help if you can. The snowdrops in the churchyard are well worth a visit, as is the book stall at the back of church. The church is open from 10am to 5pm.
