Age Concern: Members of Age Concern met at the Masonic Hall on Friday. They enjoyed a lunch served by Jill Warren and Lynn Mountain, The raffle winner was Martin Leeming. In the afternoon Colin Etherington gave an interesting and humorous talk to the members.
Bright Hour: Members of the Bright Hour met at the Methodist Church last Tuesday for a slide talk which included lovely views of mountains, hills and flowers. A bring and buy stall raised £85 for church funds. Light refreshments were served.
Coffee mornings: A coffee morning was held in the town hall on Saturday for St Boniface’s Church. There was an excellent cake stall and raffle and £400 was raised for church funds. The organisers would like to thank helpers, donors and coffee goers for their support. This Saturday’s coffee morning will be in aid of the local branch of Mencap and starts at 10am.
Pre-election meeting: A special pre-election meeting will be held in the town hall on Wednesday from 7pm to 8pm. It has been arranged for anyone thinking about standing for Bentham Town Council in the election on May 22. Prospective candidates can meet town councillors and other candidates and ask questions in an informal setting. Everyone is welcome.
Women’s Institute: Low Bentham WI will meet at the Victoria Institute today at 7.30pm when the speaker will be Joanne Halliwell on What Betsy Did Next. Visitors are welcome.
Footpath Group: Bentham Footpath Group will meet today for a four-mile walk at Berwick. Meet at Lairgill at 10.30am.
Wastepaper collection: Tomorrow there will be a waste paper collection at Lairgill car park between 8.30am and 11am. Proceeds will go to the NSPCC.
Looking well: On Saturday, the Looking Well will hold a carnival making session between 2pm and 4pm.
