Victoria Hall: Tomorrow, there will be ska/reggae music from North Eastern group Pikey Beatz while RAMjam and Dales Jam return on Saturday with more than 40 musicians taking to the stage. Next Thursday, March 27, traditional Scottish band Mànran will perform. One of Scotland’s best loved live-acts, they blend  traditional instrumentation (fiddle, accordion, flute, uilleann pipes and highland bagpipes) with a tight, grooving backline (drums, bass and guitar. The month concludes with a comedy special featuring the improvisation show, They Came With Outer Script, next Saturday, March 29, and a family matinee of Le Tour Des Animaux, based on Saint-Saens’ Carnival of the Animals, the following afternoon. Guided walk: The Friends of Settle to Carlisle have arranged a guided walk on Saturday from Dent Station to Dent village via the Dales Way. The seven-mile walk is suitable for families but not suitable for buggies and pushchairs. Those taking part should meet at Dent Station at 12.15pm and bring a packed lunch and a drink. Settle Orchestra: The orchestra will perform at the Richard Whiteley Theatre, Giggleswick School, on Saturday at 7.30pm. The programme will be repeated next Saturday, March 29, at Christ Church, Skipton, also at 7.30pm. The programme includes works by Weber, Schumann, Grieg and Tomlinson. Folk Club: The Three Peaks Folk Club will meet on Saturday at Settle Social Club when the guest will be Nick Brooker. Admission is £6 on the door. Floor singers and support acts welcome.

Film night: Tramps will show the film, Wadjda, at Victoria Hall on Wednesday at 7.45pm. Tickets cost £5. The film is set in Riyadh and is the story of a ten-year-old girl who longs to own a bicycle, like her friend Abdullah. Through the story of the girl and her bicycle, the film examines the larger issues of the role of women in Saudi society.
Gardening Club: Settle and District Gardening Club will meet at Townhead Court on Wednesday at 2pm to hear an illustrated talk by Chris Taylor on the Gardens of Hong Kong. Non-members are welcome for a £3 admission fee.
Women’s Institute: The Lunch Club will meet next Thursday, March 27, to catch the 11.30am bus to Craven College, Skipton. The next meeting will be the 25th birthday party on Wednesday, April 2. This meeting will start at 12.30pm and will include a buffet lunch, followed by a speaker. On Wednesday, June 4 there will be a Bring a Friend for Free meeting. There will be a hearty welcome and no charge for visitors and friends. The speaker will be Stephen Watson on The Art of Origami.
Flowerpot Festival: There will be an informal drop-in event at The Folly next Thursday, March 27 between 3pm and 8pm to allow members of the public and representatives of local businesses to meet members of the Flowerpot Festival Team and to find out how you can take part in the festival. This will provide an opportunity to watch a demonstration on how to make a Flowerpot Person as well as to share ideas and be inspired.  Further inspiration can be found at visitsettle.co.uk/flowerpot. Kwezana link: This week, the link between Settle and Kwezana Primary School has seen pupils exchanging views about school activities. Pupils in Kwezana have been starting to prepare for end-of-term exams while year five pupils in Settle have been out and about exploring the local hills and caves. In both schools, pupils have been learning about basic first aid and while treatment for nose bleeds and bruises were common to both, pupils in Kwezana also learnt what to do in the event of a bite by a venomous snake.
