Fashion show: Aire View Infant School invites you to a fashion show hosted by ‘shop2drop’ next Thursday, March 27 from 7pm at Silsden Sports Club. Tickets are £3 to be purchased in advance from the school. There will be a raffle on the night.
Young farmers: Silsden with Skipton Young Farmers meeting enjoyed bowling at the Matrix, Skipton. Next week’s will be beef judging.
Jumble sale: The 1st Steeton Guides will hold a jumble sale at St James’ Church Hall on Monday, March 31 from 7.30pm to 9pm, which will also include a toy sale. This is to raise funds for a group working to persuade the Olympic committee to include ice skating in the Paralympic Games. Some of the guides are taking part in the latest competition due to be held in Iceland. Tea and coffee will be available on the night.

Charity event: A charity event is being held at Silsden Sports Club on Saturday, April 12 from 7pm to midnight to raise money for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice. it includes Bucks Fizz on arrival, a hot buffet, live music with local band Undercover, disco, auction and raffle. Ladies Circle: The Ladies Circle March meeting started with the AGM followed by a treasure hunt organised by Brenda Robb. At the AGM, the joint committee of four, who took over at last year and planned such an interesting and varied programme, agreed to carry on in office. Joyce Ellison also agreed to remain as treasurer. Monies to be shared between various charities and church funds will be decided after the final meeting of the spring term. This will be a spring fashion show by Kathryn of Otley on Tuesday, April 1. Models will be wearing a range of clothes to suit all age groups. The event will take place in Silsden Methodist Church at 7.30pm at Silsden Methodist Church. Tickets are £3 including refreshments and are available at Twiggs newsagents, Circle members or at the door.
Local history: The story of the Bradford Pals – which included several Silsden men – will be discussed by author David Raw, when he visits Silsden Local History Group on Monday evening. Mr Raw, who was chief researcher on a Granada documentary about the Pals, will also bring along photographs, including scenes from the Pals’ training camp at Skipton in the early years of the war. The meeting, open to all, will be held at the Methodist Church, with doors open at 7pm for a 7.20pm start. The following afternoon, the group is hosting a drop-in session at the town hall between 2pm-4pm for those interested in furthering their research into family or local history. Chairman David Mason also plans to have a set of old maps of Silsden available for perusal.
Library diary: A diary has been placed in Silsden Library for organisations to record the dates of any special events they are running. This is particularly relevant to coffee mornings, in order to avoid a number of them being held on the same day. Just ask at the library desk and you will be given the diary to check dates and make your own entry.
Proms concert: The Proms on the Farm team proudly present Inn Jeopardy with Country & Western and Folk music from the 60s, 70s and 80s at Silsden Golf Club from 7.30pm on Saturday, April 19. Admission is £6 and proceeds will be split between Silsden Methodist Church and Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice. Tickets are available from Twiggs newsagents on Kirkgate, Silsden. Please note the change of date for this event. The organisers advise that anyone who has already bought a ticket for the previous date of March 7 can use their tickets on April 19 or present them at Twiggs for a full refund.
