Ten diesel-hauled tourist trains have been commissioned to travel from Skipton along the Settle-Carlisle line.

The service offers visitors to the famous line the chance to begin their journey at Skipton, calling at Hellifield and Settle before heading along the 72-mile route.

The carriages will be equipped with tables for everyone and the opportunity to have lunch on board. Guides will be available to provide commentary along the route and answer questions.

Roger Hardingham, from Kingfisher Railtours which has organised the locomotives, said: "This new train is devised to give the visitor to the area a comfortable and unique insight to this famous railway. The railway today attracts hundreds of thousands of passengers and onlookers who marvel at its great structures and folklore. The economic impact from tourism to the line brings huge commercial opportunities to the many businesses in the area, such as hotels, B&Bs, restaurants and the many other tourist attractions."

The first return Settle-Carlisle Experience train set off from Skipton station last week and subsequent excursions will be held on: July 2 and 25, August 1, 8, 22 and 29 and September 5 and 12.
