The long-awaited revamp of Skipton Bus Station is due to start next month.

Contracts for the work were due to be awarded this week with work then likely to start in August.

The scheme, which was approved by North Yorkshire County Council last month and will cost about £1.4 million, will transform the town's bus station, say council officials. The layout will be changed to make life easier for passengers and pedestrians and also for taxi drivers and car drivers.

The waiting facilities will be improved under the scheme and the toilet block will be replaced with a new one close to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
