Sir – Further to the story in last week’s Craven Herald ‘Family left stunned by noisy children letter’, I recently was visited by an officer of Craven District Council who informed me that a formal complaint had been made about our back hedge.
The hedge was overhanging a ginnel and could be considered dangerous.
As a result, we were instructed to make sure the hedge was cut back.
To me, this is an unnecessary use of council resource and officialdom, a simple knock on the door by the complainant would have resulted in the same result, of getting the hedge trimmed.
We were simply not aware the hedge was causing a problem as we do not use the ginnel and there had been a growth spurt following rain.
It was trimmed the same day by my husband after he came home from work.
We have lived in this house for more than ten years without the problem ever arising before and do not feel we are unapproachable.
