Sir – Last week my wife, myself and an elderly lady in her 90s, were waiting for the 3.40pm No 10 bus from Settle Market Square to Clitheroe but when the time got to 4.25pm we accepted that the bus was not going to turn up.

By then it was getting dark and the next and last bus was not due until 6.15pm, assuming that it would turn up, so we were starting to panic a little.

My wife went across the road to the Naked Man Cafe to ask for any taxi numbers so the three of us could get home.

Mr Vaughan was in the cafe and told my wife that he was going to Hellifield if that was any use, but sadly that was the wrong direction.

The first number they gave her was not able to provide a taxi so my wife returned to see if they had any alternative numbers.

Mr Vaughan, who was still in the cafe and could hear my wife explaining our dilemma to the cafe staff, then offered to run the elderly lady and ourselves home, which he duly did.

Mr Vaughan refused to accept any payment for his kindness.

Without his incredible kindness God knows how we would have got home as the next and last bus did not turn up either.

We have decided that he should be rewarded and will be sending M & S gift vouchers to him as a thank you but feel he deserves a mention in your newspaper.
