Moortown 17 Skipton 13

SkiSkipton’s hopes of a much-needed win were shattered when winger Lee Shaw received a yellow card and Moortown pounced to score the winning try while the Reds were down to 14 men.

It was a cruel blow for the Skipton side who had recovered froma slow start to lead 13-12.

Moortown scored a converted try after just three minutes, but Skipton responded with a penalty from captain Darren Howson.

Five minutes later Moortown scored their second try. A penalty goal attempt struck the bar but the escape proved short lived as Skipton lot possession in a mix up and Moortown scored a try to take a 12-3 advantage.

Just before half-time Skipton had another penalty awarded which Howson converted 12-6.

The Reds were hampered when Tom Keady injured a knee and had to be replaced by new boy Peter Macnamara.

Skipton were playing up the hill in the second half but were soon on top with winger Shaw scoring in the corner after great work by the three-quarters, Howson's kick was successful, to put Skipton ahead.

The decisive moment came when Shaw was adjudged to have made a high tackle and was sin binned.

Before Skipton could regroup, Moortown scored the decisive try.

Although finishing the stronger Skipton could not breach the Moortown line and at full time had just won one bonus point.

This was a decent performance by Skipton players with Macnam- ara having a fine game at number 8, ably assisted by lock Richard Willsher and Simon Bygrave at prop. In the backs Jonny Moore and Andy Maclean covered well.

Skipton visit West Leeds on Saturday.
