The mathematics are simple - whatever points Macclesfield gather from their match at home to Fylde on Saturday, Wharfedale need one more to finish above them and avoid relegation from SSE National League One.

And they have two matches to do it.

On Saturday, the Dalesmen get the chance to prove that they can avoid banana skins when they travel to Cambridge.

Already relegated, Cambridge have lost their last nine matches, but, now managed by All Black Craig Newby, they will surely want to bow out from the division with a victory.

Although their defensive record is very poor, they have shown that they can certainly score tries, recording four against Ealing two weeks ago.

Coach Tom McGee recognises the danger of the fixture, and said: “Our approach to this match has be exactly right.

"Our performances in the latest three league matches have been superb, but it is vital that we carry that standard into Saturday’s match.”

Wharfedale, who are on a winning run of four matches against Cambridge, name Simon Horsfall in their line-up, making him the latest Wharfedale player to register 200 league appearances.

However, as all clubs find when the league stretches into May, private commitments take precedence and Adam Howard is attending his sister’s wedding - the only change from last Saturday’s win over Richmond.

Richard Brown returns to his normal place in the engine room, with Jim Mason starting in the back row.

The hookers rotate but the scrum halves, after some deliberation, remain the same, with James Gough starting and Phil Woodhead on the bench.

Wharfedale (at Cambridge): A Whaites; L Davies, J Donkin, L Gray, S Horsfall; T Barrett, J Gough; C Steel, S Graham, M Tampin, R Brown, R Rhodes, J Mason, A Myers, T Wareing.  Replacements: N Dickinson, I Larkin, R Davies, P Woodhead, J Prell.
