Barnoldswick Town 0 Hebburn Town 2

Barnoldswick Town are still searching for their first FA Cup win after bowing out of this season’s competition in Tuesday night’s extra preliminary round replay.

Having drawn 2-2 away to their Northern League opponents on Saturday, Town had high hopes of breaking their duck with home advantage.

But that optimism was shattered by two second-half goals as the visitors ran out deserved winners.

Unlike the first game where they had plenty of chances to win the game, Town faded after a bright start and only some fine goalkeeping by Billy Carrington stood be- tween them and a heavier defeat.

Town’s management team of Kevin Richardson and Paul Fildes made five changes for the replay.

Winger Andy Lee and James Nettleton were both unavailable while Jake McEneaney, Danny Boyle and Sam Howell were on the substitutes bench as Matthew Cavanagh, Adam Hayton, Joel Melia and Harry Thomp- son were drafted in.

After ten minutes Hayton, and Neil Chapman were involved in a slick move that saw the ball played to Chris Ridehalgh whose shot from the edge of the penalty area just went over the bar.

At the other end Rich- ardson had to concede a corner after Martin Roper was put through on goal.

Town’s best chance came after 24 minutes when a Chapman shot was charged down by Andrew Hunter in the Hebburn goal, the ball rebounded to Ridehalgh who couldn’t get enough power in his shot allowing Chris Smith to clear off his goal line.

Hayton curled a shot wide while at the other end Dan Smith had a clear chance but dragged his shot wide.

Town were reduced to shooting from distance with a 30-yard effort from Billy Priestley going wide.

The half-finished with Hebburn on the attack, Carrington making a point-blank save to keep Roper out.

It was no surprise when the visitors went ahead after 51 minutes. Danny Morton slipped allowing Dan Smith to collect the ball and lift it over Carrington’s head.

Hebburn were easily containing Town, who replaced Hayton, Thompson and Melia with Boyle, Callum Smith and Howell after 68 minutes Carrington made two brilliant saves to deny Roper before substitute Howell brought a diving save out of Hunter as he tipped his shot round the post for a corner.

Roper wrapped up victory for Hebburn with a 75th minute goal after the home defence failed to clear.

It capped a disappointing night for the home team.
