Wharfedale's resistance crumbles after brave first half

Craven Herald: Winger Scott Jordan scored two of Wharfedale's three tries Winger Scott Jordan scored two of Wharfedale's three tries

Doncaster 57, Wharfedale 17

Doncaster started the match looking like the SSE National League One leaders that they are, and after 14 minutes had established a 15-0 lead.

They exposed Wharfedale's right flank twice, with David Clark and Tyson Lewis both scoring tries, Douglas Flockhart converting one and adding a penalty.

Wharfedale then started to come back into the game. Aaron Myers ran a penalty back at Doncaster and Taylor Prell was passed the ball.

He showed great skill and determination, skipping out of tackles and accelerating away from the defence to score his first try for Dale on his debut. Tom Barrett added the conversion.

After 35 minutes, Scott Jordan pounced on the ball and ran in another welcome unconverted score for the visitors.

Dale took the lead before half-time when Myers scooped a loose ball and fed Jordan, who raced clear.

He had the speed and the legs to reach for another score, despite being tackled close to the line. Again Barrett could not convert but Wharfedale's lead was lost after a penalty was awarded to Doncaster and Flockhart landed a good shot from 40 metres to give the Knights an 18-17 interval lead,.

Wharfedale looked to add to their tally this at the start of the second half but they were undone by their own expansive play which, after ten minutes, led to an interception and a try for Flockhart, which he also converted.

Doncaster's confidence was restored and, despite brave resistance from the Greens, they went on to score five more tries, Flockhart converting two and adding a penalty.

Wharfedale's bravery went unrewarded as they failed to get a bonus-point try.
