SUTTON and Embsay have both boosted their survival hopes in the Mewies Solicitors Craven League Division One.

After an unpromising start at Riddlesden, Sutton's fortunes were revived by skipper Craig Thornton with 61 and No 11 Justin Holdsworth (37no) as they posted a score of 171-9.

Riddlesden were never in the hunt and could only make 117, with Simon Doane taking 4-51.

Embsay had Phil Binner to thank for their 94-run win at home to Chatburn. After opener Morgan Davies had made 47, the hosts needed Binner's 48 at No 8 to reach 165.

Binner followed up with 5-28 as Chatburn were hustled out for 71, Sam Arkwright (3-13) and Josh Robinson (2-29) provided able back up.

Sutton and Embsay now move above Foulridge and Chatburn, splitting what was a four-way tie at the bottom.

Jonah Smith (5-39) and Harry McEneaney (3-57) were instrumental as Gargrave finally broke their duck in Division Two.

Joe Metcalfe (46) and McEneaney (35) had earlier helped visitors Gargrave to 198 at Wilsden, and the home side were then dismissed for 176. The win still wasn't enough to lift Gargrave up from 12th.

Thornton-in-Craven maintained the leadership with Rob Foster (79) and David Holt (54) adding 111 for the fourth wicket in their 230-7 against Ingrow.

It looked as if Ingrow were heading for a heavy defeat at 100-8, but they rallied to make 178 as Jack Laycock took 6-57 and Jonny Martin (3-84).

Cowling remain hot on Thornton's heels after a convincing 62-run win over Bradley. Shahid Hassan (55), Mike Dudley (46) and Ajmal Choudhry (43) were the mainstays of Cowling's 243-7 as Casper Bean took 3-58, but Neil Andrews (50) lacked support in Bradley's reply of 181 as Choudhry took 3-44 and Martyn Dalby (3-49).

Meanwhile, Glusburn suffered an eight-wicket defeat at Denholme after being rolled over for 82.

Cononley's lack of runs means they are now only three points clear in Division Three.

They could only manage 128 at home to Haworth Road Meths, of which Andrew Starkey scored 46, and lost by five wickets, despite Jack Hatton's 3-27.

Basement boys Bradford & Bingley found runs even harder to come by at Sandylands as Skipton Church Institute dismissed them for 57 as John Stuttard took 5-23 and Darren Pighills (3-8).

The reply was comprehensive, Sean Williamson making 34 not out and Ian Henderson 23 not out as CI won by ten wickets.

Classy batting from Paul Ellis (73no) sped Thornton-in-Craven 2nds to a seven-wicket win at Division Four leaders Bingley Congs 2nds.

Skipper Dan Oldfield (44) and Tom Cleavor (36) also contributed after Congs had made 184-8, which was disappointing considering they were 109-1 after 24 overs.

Glusburn 2nds fell to a seven-wicket defeat at home to Crossflatts, while Gargrave 2nds lost by four runs at home to Wilsden 2nds, despite Chris Smith taking 5-47 and Stuart Weatherill (4-46).

The defeat was all the more galling as Lee Barrett (36) and Tony Spensley (27) put on 57 for Gargrave's first wicket in reply.

Sutton 2nds continue to lead Division Five after romping to a ten-wicket triumph at home to Cononley 2nds.

Carl Jopson took 6-29 and Sam Solley (3-35) as the visitors were dismissed for 130, and then Solley scored 75 not out and Glynn Thornton 34 not out as the target was reached in just 24 overs.

Second-placed Cowling 2nds were pushed a little harder at Bradley 2nnds, who made 160-7 on the back of 54 by Neil Lambert and 36 by opener Danny Smith.

Cowling captain Sajid Shafait scored 75 not out and Zahid Shafait (35no) as they won by six wickets.

Paul Smith's 42 at No 9 and 41 by Martin Chisnall were in vain for Skipton CI S2nds, who went down by seven wickets at Long Lee 2nds.
