INGLETON'S Harley Rushton clinched the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club 350cc championship at Snetterton at the weekend.

After the frustration of seeing his 500cc Manx Norton seize up on Friday leaving him without a ride in the 500cc club championship race, his luck changed on Saturday.

In the 350 club championship race, Rushton got away and was running in second until the last lap when he pulled a move on Alan Oversby out braking him on the infield section and pulling a 0.8 second gap on him to take the race win and secure the 350 twins championship.

Going into race two on the Saturday the pressure was now off Oversby in second place.

Sunday morning was the 350 race of the year and the seven-lap dual between Rushton and Oversby was fierce. Neither was giving in and they were both on the edge, swapping places each lap.

On the last lap Rushton pulled an overtake, but Oversby cut back up the inside meaning they were locked elbow to elbow down the next straight. After Rushton's final charge around the last corner was in vain as he had to settle for second place.

Sunday afternoon was the ACU 500cc National Championship race and Harley borrowed a bike for the race. He was starting second on the grid and got a terrible start but had to take a few laps to get use to the bike and how it handled. But once Harley got more use to the bike he was able to push through the five-way fight for the lead.

Positions were swapping repeatedly and Rushton fought his way into second place going onto the final lap but after much effort he was unable to make a pass for the lead after nearly running into the rear of his contender on one corner.

Harley was still pleased to have come through to second and said: "It shows that I have the speed to run at the front. I just need to hone my race-craft for next year. This has left me with third place secured in the ACU National Championship so I'm over the moon with these two great positions in two very different championships.

"The two races on Sunday I was competing in were said to be some of the most exiting all weekend, I'm pleased to have been a part of them and put on a great spectacle."
