West Riding County Women's League Division Two: Leeds City 3 Silsden Development 0

SILSDEN Ladies Development side produced an immense performance at the league leaders.

Following some disappointing late withdrawals, the Cobbydalers took to the field with only ten players but despite the disparity in numbers, the visitors were up for the challenge.

Led by captain Dee Rutherford, the Dragons gave the Leeds defence an early warning they would be no pushovers.

Leeds responded but the outstanding Kortnai Broughton, alongside Jordan Whiteley, created a wall which the hosts found hard to break down. Lauren Murgatroyd made up the final piece of a disciplined defence.

Kate Perfect and Freya Ollson worked incredibly hard to close down the opposition but the pressure finally told when Leeds slotted home a penalty, giving debutant Rebecca Seward no chance.

The arrival of an additional player at half-time boosted Silsden after the break. Rebecca Leach continued to forage down the left flank while Kylie Armstrong caused similar problems down the right.

On a day of of impressive displays, none was more noticeable than that of Megan Robson-Owens, who mesmerised the opposition with her trickery.

Silsden threatened an equaliser but an unfortunate mix-up allowed a Leeds winger to place the ball perfectly in the corner and make it 2-0. Seward, who proved herself to be a very competent keeper, had no chance.

Undeterred, Silsden pressed forward and another superb ball from Robson-Owens saw them desperately unlucky not to pull one back.

Silsden deserved some reward but a scramble from a corner spun in off a post to give Leeds a third goal.

But the Cobbydalers left the field with heads held high after putting in arguably their best performance of the season so far.
