Barnoldswick Town 0 Charnock Richard 4

Town fielded a much-changed side as they finally played their Macron Cup tie at the sixth attempt.

Luke Cocker came in for his debut in goal as Jordan Gidley wasn’t signed in time to play.

Regulars Shaun Airey, Joel Melia and James Crorken were all on the substitutes bench, with Mark Threlfall absent ill.

Charnock, who had won 4-0 when the sides met in the Hallmark Security League at the Silentnight Stadium earlier in the season, started brightly.

Anthony Hough wasn’t closed down quickly enough and Charnock danger man Carl Grimshaw curled a great shot over Cocker into the far corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Town had a great chance to pull level after 20 minutes. Jack Overson played a great ball through the visitors’ defence to Harry Thompson but he shot straight at the advancing Adam Halton in the Charnock goal.

The visitors increased their lead when Joseph Noblet fired low inside Cocker’s left post. The keeper got a hand to the ball but couldn’t stop it entering the net.

Town hit back two minutes later when Aaron Hollindrake was clear on the edge of the visitors’ penalty area, but he blazed his shot high over the bar.

Two down at half-time, Town had another chance four minutes after the break. Zack Dale was played in on the left, but his weak shot was easily saved.

Charnock increased their lead after 52 minutes when a fierce cross was touched in by Grimshaw near the far post.

The final goal came when Hough broke clear to score after the Town defence failed to clear their lines.

Charnock are by far the best team seen at the Silentnight Stadium this season.
