CRAVEN Lawn Tennis Club in Gargrave held a successful charity day with former GB Davis Cup players Danny Sapsford and Luke Milligan earlier this month.

The aim was to raise funds for a variety of tennis outreach programmes to be run by the club over the next couple of years to encourage new players, and those who haven't played for a while, to come along and try tennis at the club.

The day raised an impressive total of £1,300, all of which will be ring fenced by the club for the promotion of tennis locally. Further details of courses will be released in the coming weeks and months.

A large number of players, of all ages and abilities, participated in the coaching sessions run by Sapsford and Milligan, which proved popular. The club has four grass and three brand new all-weather courts, which were all used on the day.

Serving up food, drink and glorious weather, Craven LTC lived up to its reputation of the north's "Mini Wimbledon", as a small village club with magnificent facilities and a welcoming and sociable atmosphere.

After the various coaching sessions had finished, Sapsford and Milligan played an exhibition match of men's doubles at the club. They also invited club players to join them at times on court

The next event at the club will be the annual teenage tournament on July 23 for youngsters aged 11 to 18. Players do not need to be a member of the club and the event is open to all.

Anyone interested in playing can contact club secretary Beth Whitley at secretary@craventennis.org.uk or 01756 749664 for further details.
