Litherland REMYCA 3 Barnoldswick Town 3

BARNOLDSWICK Town were indebted to Shaun Airey's equaliser 10 minutes from time as they rescued a point from their trip to newly-promoted Litherland REMYCA on Saturday.

The seesaw Hallmark Security League Premier Division clash saw the lead change hands on several occasions, but neither side could find a late winner.

Both teams created good chances early on. Litherland striker Warren Jevons put a good one-on-one chance wide before Barnoldswick's Mark Threlfall forced a fine save from the opposition keeper Ben Morrow.

The visitors then missed a huge chance to go in front. A corner was swung in and Elliott Wilson was left with a free header in front of goal, but somehow placed his effort off target.

Threlfall eventually opened the scoring for Town after 38 minutes, following great work down the right from Jack Coop, but Litherland pulled level on 41 minutes through Jason McShane.

However Airey restored the away side's lead instantly. A long free-kick was played forward into the box and he managed to glance a header into the corner of the net.

The hosts then equalised three minutes into the second half through David Crist's scrambled effort and after Threlfall forced another fine save from Morrow, Jevons put Litherland in front with 20 minutes to go.

A controversial offside call prevented Andrew Hill from equalising but Airey slammed in a late half volley following a costly drop by Morrow.

A late lob just cleared the crossbar for Barnoldswick but in the end, both sides had to settle for a point.

Meanwhile, on Sunday evening, Town announced the re-signing of last season's star player Zack Dale.
