THE Scenic Isles of Anglesey brought a weekend of warm weather, sunshine and close racing, along with an element of frustration for Ingleton classic motorcycle racer Harley Rushton.

Rushton had another successful event albeit in quick succession from the previous one with a weekend full of podiums and a victory all while struggling with bike set-up.

Saturday morning’s qualifying started strong with the Craven TZ as Rushton qualified on pole position for the Post Classic club race. He further improved his lap times as he followed this up with 5th on the grid in the ACU Post Classic race.

Following on from this the difficulties with the Craven Honda Rushton only qualified 5th on the bike. After changes the ACU qualifying was no better, managing 13th position on the grid.

Race one of the weekend was on the Craven TZ. He led the opening lap from pole position but the experience of Mike Cooper and Ant Hart on the Yamaha TZ bikes had the edge with race pace. This was the story for every Post Classic club race of the weekend where Rushton was just struggling with those final few tenths. He still rode strong in the races and came home in 3rd place in every club race.

There was a gearing change for the Craven Honda before race one of the weekend due to the new silencing systems hampering performance. This did not help and he had to play runner up in race one of the Classic 350 races. This is how the remaining 350cc Classic races of the weekend finished until the final race saw the rider claim a race win. The bike was difficult to ride meaning he could not challenge comfortably for the race wins all weekend but the mechanical reliability resulted in victory in the final race.

The ACU Post Classic 750cc race saw a Craven Classic Racing 1-2 with Rushton taking the runner up place behind his team mate Mike Cooper.

The ACU 350 Classic Race saw him take another 2nd place behind Dom Herbertson to round off a difficult weekend chasing chatter on the Craven Honda.

A successful weekend of results did leave the rider frustrated. He said: “The bike's performance was good but the chatter we experienced made the Craven Honda difficult to ride. The Craven TZ Yamaha was great and had the performance to challenge for race victories; I just need more time on the bike myself to bridge the gap to the leaders.

"Even with a weekend of podiums and a win I was left frustrated that I couldn’t bridge that half second gap to challenge for the race wins. The team will re-group and work towards improvements for the next race meeting at Croft at the start of October.”
