AUSTWICK Tennis Club members defied frequent showers to see Sarah Llewelln and Marco Frik become this year's winners of the Sheila Barraclough Shield.
The trophy, which is named in memory of one of the club’s founder members Sheila Barraclough, who died in 2018, was presented by Sheila’s husband Bernard following the annual American Tournament held on Sunday July 24.
Despite several interruptions for rain, the tournament, held at the club ground in Wharfe Road, was completed in front of a group of hardy spectators and followed by a Jacob’s Join enhanced by generous quantities of Pimms.
The tournament also provided an opportunity to say farewell to former club treasurer and B team captain Pam Mueller who recently moved out of the area.
Pam was presented with certificate giving life membership of the club, together with a gift in recognition of her contribution to the club over many years.
