BARNOLDSWICK Town’s winning league run came to an end on Saturday after falling to a 3-2 defeat at Padiham.

Barlick had claimed victory in their previous four North West Counties Football League (Premier Division) fixtures and despite their best efforts to keep that run alive at the weekend, the hosts proved to be a step too far for the visitors.

Padiham took the lead after just two minutes of the contest when Joel Melia bundled the ball home from a corner, however it didn’t take long for the away side to level things up.

On minute 9, Brad Carsley played in Ben Ashton who finished emphatically to make it 1-1.

In a crazy period of the match, two goals were scored just before the interval but first blood went to the hosts, as they swiftly cut open Barlick’s backline to strike just before the break through Joel Brownhill .

Back came Barlick, though, as Brad Ditch met a delivery from a free-kick to emphatically level the scores at 2-2 just before the whistle blew to signal the end of the first half.

With both sides pushing for a winner after the break, it was Padiham who claimed all three points, with Benjamin Hoskin tapping home after a mistake from Barnoldswick’s shot stopper.

The visitors couldn’t find an equaliser as the home side saw the game out at 3-2.

Up next for Barnoldswick is a trip to Charnock Richard this evening, while they return home on Saturday when they host West Didsbury and Chorlton.
