There’s a big night in prospect for the two Colne teams as Legion A and Cricket Club who will meet in the Slaters Arms Clarkson Cup final on Monday, August 6 after winning their semi-finals on Monday.

Colne Legion A beat last year’s runners up Silsden Playing Fields A at Crosshills, in a match which saw them receive a ten-point start.

It meant that Silsden required a good start but they did just the opposite. Legion romped ahead as David Hough 21-8, Kenbo Wilson 21-5 and Brian McLellan 21-10 gave them a 50 -point lead.

This effectively put the match out of Playing Fields’ reach. Derrick Metcalfe came up with a 21-6 win for Playing Fields but it was cancelled out by Colne’s Tony Bracewell winning 21-4, the match finished with five winners each but Legion triumphed resoundingly by 213-182. The other semi-final was much closer as Colne Cricket Club were made to work hard to pull back the 30 points that Craven B received. The first four games saw Colne come out on top as Rosie Southworth gave them a good start with a 21-5 win.

Glen Hartley 21-11 and Daryl Wright 21-16 pulled back further points, while Mick Demain 21-16 held things together for Craven. Two winners apiece in the middle four, Warren Burnett 21-16 and Rob Ellis 21-12 for Craven, Claire Russell 21-19 and Jim Whitaker 21-6 for Colne left the match with one point in it. The last two matches were close but it was Colne who came out on top, with Barry Driver 21-14 and Steve Clamp 21-18 sealing a cup final place against their local rivals thanks to a 226-217 win.
