IF EVER anyone doubted the importance of goal-scorers, they should look at the man-of-the-match awards handed out after the latest batch of Mastab's Craven League games.

Only four survived being called off due to waterlogged pitches but six of the eight 'gongs' that were handed out went to successful marksmen.

Fourth-placed Skipton Town hosted the sole Division One contest, and they held leaders Chatburn to a 1-1 draw, man of the match Mark Eyton-Jones earning Town their point.

Settle United's award winner Luke Hopton was also on target in their 4-1 home Division Two victory over fourth-placed Grindleton Reserves, whose only goal came from Rory Jones, who was also named man of the match.

Substitute Dale Denham was also on target for United, who stayed eighth.

Andrew Tanner's brace for Broomhill inspired them to a 4-2 triumph over third-placed visitors FC Polonia, Broomhill rising from sixth to fifth on the back of the win.

Skipton Town Reserves made it a happy day for their club with a 4-3 victory at Horton in Division Three.

Danny Richardson (2) and John Sutcliffe were the marksmen for the hosts, man of the match Naq Hussain (2), Paul Clifton and Ross Greenwood replying to give the second string the spoils and lift them from fourth to third above Trawden Celtic Reserves.
