Steeton 1 Halifax Irish 1

IN THE first game of Steeton's double header, the visitors almost took an early lead when Carlton Pownall found himself one-on-one with Sam Moore, who made a fine save.

Pownall and team mate Matty Waller, in particular, were a constant threat but the Chevrons' defence were well marshalled by Kyle Fox and Alistair Morgan.

The only goal of the half came just before the half-hour mark when Lee Reilly latched on to a pass from Andy Briggs and calmly slipped the ball past the visiting goalkeeper.

The equaliser came six minutes into the second half when a strong run down the right by the tricky Waller ended with the ball being fed to Eli Hey, who blasted home.

After an hour Ben Clarkson was replaced in midfield by Jack Richmond and Sam Rooke came on as a forward, replacing Briggs. Despite strenuous efforts, the hosts were unable to penetrate the Halifax back line and had to be grateful to Moore, who made three outstanding saves to keep the visitors at bay.

The failure to score began to frustrate the visitors. The referee cautioned three of them and dismissed Pownell.

A last-minute attack by almost brought Irish the winner but the shot went narrowly wide and both sides had to be satisfied with a point.

Steeton: Moore, Rhodes, Morgan, K Fox, Pearson, Hird, Briggs (Rooke), Thompson, Reilly, Clarkson (Richmond), Scott.
