Route One Rovers 1 Settle United Reserves 2
IN-FORM Settle United Reserves produced a determined performance to earn a hard-fought yet deserved West Riding County FA Challenge Trophy victory with second half goals from Milton Mendes and Ben O’Hagan.
The win sees them progress into the third round for the first time in their history where they will play Springhead Reserves on Saturday, December 3 at Bridge End, kick-off 2pm.
The game started awkwardly with Settle’s keeper giving away an early penalty for a poorly-timed foul but the spot kick was blazed high and wide.
Route One did take the lead with a well-struck free-kick as Settle struggled to get going.
The second half Settle them come into their own with the influential Matty Cardus and his younger brother Dan catching the eye.
Settle equalised when Mendes rose higher than his marker to nod in at the back stick. It was another well-worked move out on the far right that saw the ball drilled across to O’Hagan to tap in with just minutes remaining.
