Steeton Reserves 3 Thornton United 0 (match abandoned)

A FIESTY game was abandoned by the referee in the second half following an alleged altercation between a Steeton player and a member of the Thornton United staff.

A league official confirmed that the matter was now in the hands of the West Riding County FA, who will rule on the incident within 28 days and advise on the outcome of the game.

The referee had to speak to players about their conduct a number of times before the match was cut short as tempers frayed after a number of niggly fouls.

Ben Clarkson scored the only goal of the first half when he took advantage of a slip by the visiting goalkeeper, who failed to cut out a finely weighted through ball from Andy Howland.

For the rest of the half, the Thornton number one played well and prevented the hosts from going in at the interval with a more substantial lead.

The visitors started the second half with gusto and went close three times, Joe Mash also making a spectacular save to maintain the lead.

Somewhat against the run of play, Will Knight doubled the lead when he latched on to a through ball and slotted home and Clarkson grabbed his second two minutes later before a fracas broke out which led to the game's abandonment.
