Barnton 2 Barnoldswick Town 3

BARNOLDSWICK Town came from behind to secure their second-successive Premier Division win on Saturday.

They had Liam Blades making his first start since an injury ten matches ago and Matthew Simpson making a welcome return to the substitutes' bench.

Town started well with Blades crossing in the second minute to the far post where the unmarked Ben Gorman headed well over the bar.

The first goal came in the 15th minute when Zack Dale broke clear on the Barnton left before drilling in a cross which Robert Cooke palmed into his own net.

Two minutes later a cross from the Town left found Barnton captain Chris Smith unmarked at the far post, fortunately his header went past Connor King’s right-hand post for a goal kick.

Town maintained their lead until the 47th minute when they conceded a penalty. Chris Smith sent King the wrong way to equalise.

Worse was to follow in the 56th minute when Ryan Malone curled a delightful shot into the far top corner of King's goal.

Town made a substitution after 69 minutes with Alex Doyle replacing Adam Yates to try to pull the game out of the fire.

The equaliser came from the boot of Matthew Cavanagh. He cracked a great shot past Cooke to level the scores after a cross found him in space.

Town pressed for a winner and it came eight minutes from time. Dale, who had tormented the Barton defence throughout, rounded the keeper and ran towards goal.

The Town supporters were willing him to tap the ball home but he kept going closer and closer to the goal. Niall Ford tried hard to cut him off at the near post, but as he slid in to block the shot, Dale lifted the ball over his body for the winner.

Town sent on Jack Overson and Mark Threlfall for Aaron Hollindrake and Harry Thompson as they saw out the final six minutes.
