Barnoldswick’s Rob Scothern was certainly feeling the heat when he tackled the World Ironman Championships in Kona Hawai, The 22-year-old had to combat 90 degree temperatures and near 100 per cent humidity as he tackled a 2.4 mile swim, 112-mile cycle ride and a full 26.2 mile marathon.

Despite a puncture on the bike leg, Scothern was 34th in the 18-24 age group and 1,113 overall in a combined time of 10hrs 49min 49sec.

It represented a great effort from Scothern who lost 12lbs in weight on a day when there was a record number of drop outs due to the severe and testing conditions,
