The Hawkswick Dash proved a race too far for Wharfedale Harrier Ted Mason.

He finished within six seconds of Pudsey & Bramley runner Matt Lockyer who won the race in 11.33, but he was clearly feeling the effects of his efforts the previous day.

He had tackled the Great Lakes run on Saturday in horrendous conditions .

It’s a race with 2,130 feet of climbing and is run over a distance of 21km.

The further handicap of a split training shoe hampered his efforts to catch Lockyer in what is one of BOFRA’S shortest races .

There was quite a battle for third and fourth places place between two under-23 runners .

Silsden’s Jonny Bradshaw just got the upper hand on his Wharfedale counterpart Jimmy Craig by a short margin.

Bingley Harrier Lee Ather- smith got the better of his cousin Matt Athersmith of Wharfedale as they finished fifth and seventh respectively.

In the ladies race the in-form Wharfedale runner Kirsty Hall ran a close second to Holmfirth’s Lucy Needham. Both had run at Buckden Gala the day before. Ilkley Harrier Ilkley's Rebecca Mon-Williams was first V40 back in a highly-competitive race.

The under-17s boys race saw Wharfedale taking the first of four places while Keighley & Craven took three of the first four places in the girls race.

These races are not much shorter than the senior race and James Hall came back almost a minute up in 10.32 on Ben Johnstone with club-mates Declan Bulmer and Harry Muir taking third and fourth.

Keighley’s Zara Knappy showed Rossendale’s Leah Williamson a clean pair of heels finishing over 40 seconds in front of her.

Keighley runners Sally Hand ford and her sister Katie took the next two places. Keighley’s James Lund put in a tremendous run in the under-14s to beat Ingleton’s Josh Newbold who was closely pursued by Lund’s team-mate Robert Thompson. It was another Ingleton athlete who was first girl home.

Ellie Lambert has her sights set on the championship and is putting together some good performances so it was no surprise to see her come back in front of Helm Hill runner Katherine Lawson with Keighley & Craven’s Eleanor Robinson in third.

The under-12s races attract some well-supported fields with junior's from far and wide but it was a Wharfedale runner who powered his way to a classy win. Robbie Johnstone is an impressive junior athlete and he is the one to beat. Keighley’s Elliott Brett came back in second ahead of Eden runner Tom Humphries.

Shona Hastings was third in the girls race behind two Helm Hill runners.

The under-nine race saw Keighley runner Lucy Fryers put in a big effort to win the two-lap race put on for BOFRA’s youngest age group.

The BOFRA season continues on the July 8 at Helm Hill.
