Rawdon Sherco rider Sam Beecroft-Penny shone in the sunshine on Saturday at the second Yeadon-Guiseley closed to club trial by winning the expert class on the hard route from East Morton's Martin Crosswaite at Pratts Farm, Silsden.

Uncharacteristic failures in sections four and eight more or less settled the outcome. Nine marks in section three for Guiseley's Joe Jennings dispatched him to third overall. Shipley landscaper Kevin Alderson and Rawdon's Chris Beecroft ran away with Clubman A and B classes leaving Chris Laws and Karl Greaves to pick up the pieces ahead of Brendan Quinlan and Clive Armistead.

Thirty four adults and youths contested the full ten-section four-lap course.

The club's small wheels age groups thrives, so much so that Lewis Hurdsman and his parents travelled from North Wales to compete. Lewis just missed winning the hard route class from Myles Hutchinson.

Harrogate's Joel Sadler topped the hard course awards at blustery Clockensyke Farm in Wetherby DMC's first Norman Crooks Trophy Trial.

He rode his Acklam Beta to victory over Fellbeck farmer Richard Shepherd and Kirkby Malzeard engineer David Mawer. Guiseley’s Andy McLoughlin would have matched Mawer but the third section robbed him of two vital marks. Sixty five riders competed in three different classes, with Silsden's Gabby Whitham claiming the youth class.
