THERE was an excellent turnout at Settle on Sunday with the members looking to support Craig Dinsdale on his captain's day.

There were some good scores came in from the early starters, and once again it was John Read ,together with Peter Morton, both scoring 37 stableford points, who set the target for remaining competitors to chase.

They continued to hold the lead in the clubhouse until Martin Scaife, returning to the game after an injury kept him sidelined for over five years, came in with a remarkable 44 points.

Scaife scored 24 on the front nine with seven pars and two bogies. He also managed another four pars on the back nine total of 20 points. This return resulted in a three-shot reduction in his handicap. Luke Wilcock playing in his first competition took the prize for being nearest the line on the 2nd hole.

In the ladies' competition Jemmy Vickery just held off the challenge of Margaret Eccleston to take first place.
