TWELVE-year-old Ned Sharp made a big splash for Skipton Swimming Club in the Yorkshire Championships.

Sharp qualified to swim in 12 events and was rewarded with two gold medals and five club record times.

He won county titles in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly. His freestyle time of 27.69 was a new club record as was his winning butterfly swim of 29.26.

The talented 12-year-old also set new club best times in the 200m individual medley, 200m freestyle and 100m freestyle. His 200m freestyle time of 3min 38.85sec was four seconds better than his previous best time.

Luke Midgley became a county champion for the first time in the 14 year boys 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:17.41 and also managed the silver medal in the 200m and bronze in the 50m breaststroke in times of 2:53.50 and 35.33 respectively.

All three times were personal bests with a number of other final placings capping of his best Yorkshire Championships to date.

There was also a gold medal for Hannah Raistrick. She won the 50m freestyle in a personal best time of 28.24 and added a silver in the 50m butterfly with a time of 30.43 - her faster-ever time for the event.

Sam King won his way to four finals in the 14 year boys 400m freestyle, 200m breaststroke, 200m backstroke and 100m backstroke. finishing in seventh place in both.

His times of 4:48.84 for the 400m freestyle, 2:32.40 for the 200m backstroke and 1:11.22 for the 100m backstroke qualify him for the North East Regional Championships. His 200m backstroke time broke the club record by five seconds.

He also weighed in with great personal best swims in the 100m breaststroke, 200m freestyle and 50m freestyle finishing 11th, 12 and 12th respectively.

Ethan's Camsey had a busy time over the three weekends that the championships were staged. He got through to five finals from his six events the first weekend with his best finish being fourth in the 200m butterfly.

He contested five more events on the middle weekend where he set a new club record in the final of the 100m backstroke where he finished seventh.

His tireless efforts were finally rewarded with a medal in the final session at Sheffield where he claimed a silver in the 50m backstroke with a time of 30.29.

Harvey's Pennington had his biggest competition to date and his first in a 50m pool. He achieved personal bests in his 200m individual medley, 200m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle swims.

Joel Phillip reached four finals and gained two new North East Regional times along with a new club record in 50m butterfly and Lily Mae Pratt set a personal best of 36.78 seconds for 50m freestyle.

Ellen Wright was a finalist in the girls 13 year old 50 metres breaststroke where she was eighth in

38.75. She also recorded a personal best of 1.27.07 in the 100m breaststroke.

The Skipton 13/14 year old boys team comprising Midgley, Joel Phillip, King and Declan Sequeira performed fantastically to get to the final of both 200m medley and 200m freestyle events.

For the medley, King swam backstroke, Phillip butterfly, Luke Midgley breaststroke and Sequeira freestyle, as the team came fifth in 2:09.56. For the freestyle they finished in seventh in 1:57.55.

Paige Fenton achieved personal bests in the100m breaststroke of 1.30.08 and 100m freestyle of 1.07.64.

Little Jack Jenkinson may not have won a medal but his freestyle time of 35.51 was the fastest by a ten-year-old. He then went on to top this in the relay swimming 50m in 34.97.

Rohan Smith achieved a new club record in the boys 11 years 50m breaststroke in 41.76.

Lauren Hanson had a personal best in the 50m breaststroke where she was tenth and set new club records in both the 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly in the 16 years age group.

There were no medals but a lot of promise from hard-working Madison Turner while Fenn Curran, Abigail Field, William Oliver, Harvey Day and Tom Barrett all gained valuable championship experience.
