SETTLE defeated local rivals Skipton 3½-1½ in the Mail on Sunday team classic matchplay competition.
Home advantage proved decisive as Dennis Holt, John Halliday and Pat Daley secured wins for Settle.
David Grant and Darron Parker claimed Skipton’s points. Grant forced a half against Peter Morton while Parker took the honours in his contest with Ray Jones.
Settle now face Clitheroe in the next round.
Frederick James produced the outstanding score on the day of 46 points to win the second division in the penultimate round of Skipton Golf Club’s winter individual competition. He finished a point in front of Richie Forrest.
It was just as tight at the top of the first division with Mick Hirst winning thanks to two birdies in the last three holes and a total of 40 points. He was just one ahead of second-placed Charles Brown.
